A man has been quarantined in Belgium over fears of a suspected case of Ebola.

The Federal Public Health Authority confirmed Monday that a patient suffering with Ebola-like symptoms was admitted to Saint Pierre University Hospital in Brussels, Xinhua reported.

The patient has been isolated and is under surveillance.

According to officials, the man recently returned from Guinea, one of the highly affected countries in West Africa.

According to a spokesperson from Saint Pierre's Hospital, the man was suffering from high fever.

"It may take 48 hours before we know the diagnosis. The chances are very small that he is infected with the Ebola virus," the spokesperson said.

On Sunday, a patient was admitted to a Brussels hospital suffering from what was believed to be the virus, but it turned out to be a false alarm.

On Thursday, Health Minister Maggie de Block will meet with other European ministers to discuss possible ways to curb the spread of the deadly virus within Europe, including the possibility of the introduction of health checks at airports and major train stations.

So far, Britain is the only European Union (EU) member state that has introduced such measures.
