A man wanted in connection with the Karkardooma court shootout last year has been arrested here, police said on Monday.
Accused Mohammad Azeem Ahmed, 29, a resident of Welcome area in east Delhi, was arrested on Thursday last week.
He was arrested from Farash Khana area at G.B. Road in central Delhi following a tip-off.
"Azeem was involved in indiscriminate firing upon an undertrial prisoner Irfan in police custody inside Karkardooma court premises in December, 2015. During the firing, Delhi Police Head Constable Ram Kumar was killed and three other persons were hurt," Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP)-Crime Ravindra Yadav said.
Police recovered a semi-automatic pistol and three live cartridges from his possession.
He was declared a proclaimed offender in three cases by different courts, a senior police officer said.
On Azeem's information, police later arrested his associate Naazim, a resident of Maujpur in east Delhi who was wanted in a cash van robbery with him.
Azeem carried a reward of Rs 50,000 and was also wanted for the murder of a woman in Uttar Pradesh in 2012, police said.
He was on the run and used to provide logistic support to criminals.
"Azeem brutally shot dead a trader in Seelampur area in 2006 and was involved in other heinous crimes. He was arrested in that case and subsequently released in 2014," JCP Yadav said.
