The central government has allotted 11,796 tonnes of rice to Manipur for sale to people under the National Food Security Act, official sources said on Friday.
Manipur implemented the Act with effect from April 24.
Government sources said a sum of Rs.30 crore had been set aside for the effective implementation of the Act in Manipur, which is home to about 24 lakh people.
Fifty per cent of the people in urban and 70 percent in rural areas shall be covered by the Act under which rice will be sold at Rs.3 a kg and flour at Rs.2 a kg.
