Mexico City, Aug 9 (IANS/EFE) The Mexican unit of Japanese automaker Mazda Motor Manufacturing Corp. plans to invest $120 million in a new plant to be built at its complex in Guanajuato, a state in central Mexico, the state government said.

"The new machinery plant for Skyactiv engines for the Mazda2 and Mazda3 models will produce approximately 230,000 units annually as of October 2014, creating 100 new jobs," Guanajuato Gov. Miguel Marquez said in a statement.

The Mazda complex in Guanajuato has also attracted Japanese companies Aki Seat, Daikyo Nishikawa and Tec Keylex, Marquez said.

The plant will supply engines to North, Central and South America, and it will be "the number three in the world in terms of machinery production with Skyactiv technology", Mazda Motor Manufacturing de Mexico S.A. de C.V. president Keishi Egawa said.

"We are very happy to be able to strengthen our foundation as suppliers of vehicles and to grow our capacity to produce engines in Mexico," Egawa said.

The new plant is in addition to the $770 million in investment already planned by Mazda for Guanajuato.
