Argentine star Lionel Messi was named the best player of the UEFA Super Cup football tournament's final, which his team FC Barcelona won 5-4 in extra time against Sevilla in an all Spanish affair.
Messi scored two free-kick goals in the first quarter of a game here on Tuesday, reports EFE.
Sevilla scored first with midfielder Ever Banega just three minutes into the game but Messi evened the score in less than ten minutes and gave his team a leading position on the scoreboard with another free kick.
"We were very tired out by a tough match," said Messi on the pitch after his teammate Iniesta lifted the trophy.
Messi also had words of encouragement for striker Pedro Rodriguez, who scored the winning goal in the 115th minute during extra time.
"Pedro deserves this for all that he has given to this club," he said.
