Bayer Leverkusen's Mexican striker Javier Hernandez Chicharito broke his right hand after he fell down the stairs at his home and will forfeit his place in the Bundesliga side at the beginning of the new season, the football club officials said.
The accident occurred on Tuesday.
Bayer Leverkusen will not be able to depend on Chicharito's goal scoring skills against Borussia Monchengladbach next Saturday in the first round of the 2016-17 Bundesliga season, reports Efe.
On the other hand, striker German Lars Bender will not be able to take part in Saturday's match after the right leg injury he sustained during the gold medal match against Brazil in Rio 2016, which Germany lost 4-5 on penalty shootouts.
Chicharito underwent surgery on Tuesday morning and will be sidelined for at least two weeks, the same as his German teammate.
