A minor girl was found hanging from a tree in Semalpur village of Kannauj on Tuesday morning after she was allegedly raped, the police said.
Daughter of Santosh Verma, the 13-year-old girl was missing since Monday night and her body was spotted hanging from a tree by villagers in the morning.
The police confirmed that prima facie sexual assault appeared to have happened before the murder.
Talking to IANS, Superintendent of Police (SP) Dinesh Kumar Puri said: "A suspect in the case is missing and his house is locked. We have constituted three teams to crack the case."
He added that he was still at the crime scene and that based on the family's suspicion regarding rape, a panel of doctors has been asked to conduct the post-mortem examination.
