The government would soon come up with a model for contract farming for states to adopt, NITI Aayog member Ramesh Chand said on Friday.
He added that both NITI Aayog and the Agriculture Ministry have prepared their models for contract farming and now work was going on towards blending the two.
"In next two to three weeks, we will hopefully come up with a model of contract farming which will be shared with states for its adoption," Chand said at an event here.
He added that the government felt the need for promoting contract farming to encourage private investment in agriculture sector.
"We want private sector to take new knowledge right from the seed and soil to providing efficient mechanization and input use. So for that we felt there was a need to promote contract farming."
