Modi chairs review meeting on Nepal evacuation, relief work

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on late Monday evening held a high level meeting to take stock of the evacuation efforts in earthquake-hit Nepal and also took stock of relief supplies and material sent to the affected areas.

Modi tweeted: "In today's follow up meeting on the situation due to the Earthquake, reviewed progress of relief and rescue work in India and Nepal."

"Took stock of the evacuation of those stranded in Nepal. Also took stock of provision of relief supplies & material to affected areas."

The meeting, chaired by the prime minister, was attended by union ministers Arun Jaitley, Rajnath Singh, Manohar Parikkar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth, Principal Secretary Nripendra Mishra, Additional Principal Secretary to the prime minister P.K. Mishra, and other senior officials,including of the Indian Meteorological Department and the National Disaster Response Force.

This was the third meeting chaired by the prime minister on the subject.

He was briefed on the progress of the relief and rescue efforts, and took stock of the evacuation of stranded people from Nepal by air and road and provision of relief supplies and material to the affected areas, said an official release.

The massive earthquake on Saturday has left over 3,800 people dead.
