BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi Wednesday filed his nomination papers from Vadodara Lok Sabha constituency in Gujarat. He was accompanied by a tea vendor and a member of the city's erstwhile royal family.

Dressed in a crisp kurta-pyjama and a saffron Nehru jacket, Modi arrived at the district collectorate around 11.20 a.m. after a holding a roadshow in the morning.

While signing the papers, a local tea vendor, Kiran Mahida who was chosen by the party leadership in a bid to cash in on Modi's tea-seller background, was on his right, while on his left was Shubhanginidevi Raje-Gaekwad, a member of Vadodara's former royal family.

State revenue minister Anandiben Patel was also present.

"I am confident that the people of Vadodara will come out in large numbers to support me and vote for BJP," Modi said after filing his nomination.

Many Modi supporters, including several from the Muslim community, gathered outside the collectorate and held Modi's posters, cut-outs and party flags.

Modi is also contesting from Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
