Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to speak on the suicide of Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula of the Hyderabad University before paying homage to Babasaheb Ambedkar in Lucknow.
Kejriwal also exhorted the prime minister to meet the protesting students of the Hyderabad University.
"PM (Prime Minister) to pay homage to Babasaheb Ambedkar. Before that, PM should speak on Rohith's suicide. PM should also go and meet protesting students," Kejriwal said in a tweet.
Modi is scheduled on Friday to visit Ambedkar Mahasabha in Lucknow after attending the convocation ceremony of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU).
Vemula hanged himself to death on the campus on Sunday. He and five other Dalit students were suspended by the university on charges of assaulting an ABVP leader.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) is the student wing of the RSS and is allied to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Kejriwal on Thursday sought the dismissal of central ministers Smriti Irani and Bandaru Dattatreya as well as the vice chancellor of Hyderabad University over Vemula's suicide.
