French Ligue 1 football club Monaco will not extend the contract with the 38-year-old central defender Ricardo Carvalho, it has said.

Former Porto, Real Madrid and Chelsea star Carvalho, 38, won Euro 2016 with Portugal this year, but Monaco are rebuilding the squad and have decided against prolonging his three-year stay there, reports Xinhua.

"Concerning Ricardo Carvalho, we have had talks and agreed there will be no contract extension," Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev said on Tuesday.

"He's been huge for us but the time has come to move on."
