Paris, Oct 9 (IANS/EFE) Prince Albert of Monaco and his wife Charlene are expecting twins by the end of this year, the principality confirmed in a statement Thursday.
"The Prince and Princess of Monaco are happy to confirm they are expecting twins ... at the end of the year," said the brief statement, which was issued hours after a British magazine published the news.
Prince Albert, 56, has two children from previous relationships before his marriage to Princess Charlene, who have no succession rights to the throne.
The couple were married July 2, 2011.
The pregnancy of 36-year-old Princess Charlene, a former South African Olympic swimmer, was first announced last May, fuelling speculation over the possible birth of twins and its consequences on succession rights.
