The central government will make all efforts to revive the Pulp and Paper Mill in Nagaland, Union Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Minister Anant G. Geete said on Friday.
"We have decided to revive the mill. We will do whatever possible to set up adequate number of industries in the northeastern region," he told reporters here.
The minister, who came here on a day's visit, said: "Growth of industries and development of infrastructure in the resource rich northeastern region is a priority of the central government."
The Centre has promised to sanction Rs 30 crore to Hindustan Paper Corp, out of which Rs 12 crore will be made available to Nagaland Pulp and Paper Co Ltd (NPPCL) or Tuli Paper Mill to revive production.
Non-availability of adequate power and law and order issues had affected the rulling of the mill.
Referring the huge production of rubber in Tripura, the minister said the central government would do whatever possible to set up big and medium rubber based industries in the state.
Geete said 3.50 crore bogus ration cards had been revoked since May 2014 and Rs 36,000 crore saved by providing payment through bank accounts under the direct benefit scheme.
