Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu Thursday asked the Delhi government and other agencies to firm up their plans to make the capital clean and green.
He also asked the Delhi government to evolve a strategy to address the issues relating to beggars, rag pickers, homeless and the migrants, said a government official.
In a meeting with the officials of Delhi government, Delhi Development Authority and the three civic agencies, Naidu stressed the need for concerted efforts to ensure a "clean and green" Delhi to enhance the quality of life of the residents.
He noted that the general public perception of management of public places and utilities is very poor and the same is required to be changed through a special drive which is to be sustained till the objective is realised
He asked the authorities to take short as wells as long term measures.
The short term measures include removal of rubble from roadsides and footpaths, cleaning and face lifting of urinals, launch of decentralized water treatment plant with dispensing units (Water ATMs) and others.
The long terms measures include zero waste management, green waste processing and introduction of global position system and IT based monitoring of waste collection and disposal.
