Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting M. Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday congratulated ace shuttler P.V. Sindhu on winning the China Open Super Series, her maiden Super Series title.
Soon after inaugurating the 47th International Film Festival of India, Naidu said: "P.V. Sindhu has won her first-ever China Open Super Series for badminton. Let us all clap and give her a standing ovation for the honour she has brought to our country."
The main theme for the festival's inaugural ceremony was "Ode to a Woman", which celebrated the journey and contribution of women to Indian Cinema.
Sindhu, 21, won the title, beating China's Sun Yu 21-11, 17-21, 21-11.
