A joint team of the army and Assam Police on Monday killed a militant of the anti-talks faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) in Assam's Sonitpur district.

Slain militant was identified as Engarlang, defence ministry spokesman Lt. Col. Suneet Newton said in a statement.

He was killed during an operation at Bogijuli area, he said, adding that one 7.62 mm pistol, mobile phones, SIM cards and a motorcycle were recovered.

Security forces have intensified their operations in and around the Sonitpur district after the massacre of over 70 tribal people by the NDFB faction in December last year.
