NEC relegated from Dutch league after 20 years

NEC Nijmegen were relegated from the Eredivisie after 20 years at the highest level in the Dutch football league.

In the second round of the promotion/relegation play-offs, NEC were beaten 1-3 at home Sunday by second division club Sparta Rotterdam, reports Xinhua.

In the final matches May 15, 18 Sparta will face FC Dordrecht, who defeated VVV-Venlo 2-1 Sunday, after a 3-1 win in the first encounter.

The other play-off final will be played between Excelsior and RKC Waalwijk, who finished 16th in the Eredivisie last season.
