Warning that the world was facing several challenges, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Sunday gave a call to work seriously on issues of extremism and climate change.

"Extremism and climate change are some of the major issues that mire us. While we can improve our strengths in education, science and technology to improve our world, we must work seriously on issues of extremism and climate change," Patnaik said while addressing the International Children's Festival here.

"We all belong to humanity. There is no point in fighting within ourselves. Fight we must; but against extremism and climate change," he added.

On climate change, he said it is a major issue threatening the very existence of earth.

"In our venture for a developed life, we are causing much harm to our environment. Though lately, we have understood our recklessness and started to reduce the effects of climate change," he said.

Maintaining that the Paris Convention on Climate Change is a promising stride in right direction, Patnaik said all must work sincerely and make concerted effort to make it happen.

He said children of the world must raise their voice for a green, clean and peaceful world.

"You have a right to it. You must ask for it at any interface you come across. Say, no to discrimination and no to pollution. Tell this to your parents, teachers, friends and whoever you meet. And believe me; the world will listen to you," he added.

Patnaik said he likes children most because they do not understand religion, nationality and for that matter they do not understand any discrimination.

"The only language they understand is the language of humanity. I would request all of you to be a child all through your life. Your understanding of humanity, peace and harmony is something we must learn from you. Then only this world will be 'One World One Family'. You are the real messenger of world peace," he said.
