A foundation to promote Indian classical music has been launched in New Zealand, which will endeavour to build platforms for young and upcoming talent while presenting quality performers to wider audiences in the country, a media report said.

The Mohan Nadkarni Foundation, named after a renowned Indian musicologist and author, was inaugurated in Auckland on October 3, with a musical concert by accomplished singers from Dubai, Australia and New Zealand, the indianweekender website reported on Friday.

A website with a selection of the late Mohan Nadkarni's 50 years of writings was also launched on the occasion. These writings will be accessible to students, music lovers, historians and researchers free of cost, it added.

The concert, which saw performances by Auckland vocalists Vidya Teke and Manasi Kulkarni, was organised in association with the Migrant Heritage Charitable trust.

A film comprising artistes' tributes to the author and musicologist was also screened at the event held at Auckland's Green Bay High Performing Arts Centre.
