Non-local students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) here on Friday tried to take out a march, demanding action against policemen who assaulted them, but police disallowed them.
A senior police officer told IANS here, "Some non-local students of NIT tried to take out a protest march today, which was disallowed by the police without using any force."
"The protesting students were told they could not be allowed to take their protest to the road outside the college."
After speaking to the police officials deployed there, the students dispersed and went back to the campus, the police officer said.
Friday being the Navratra holiday, there was no class work at the NIT.
The state government has ordered a magisterial probe into the student unrest and the incidents that occurred at the campus on March 31 and April 4.
The protesting students said they want action to be taken against the policemen who assaulted their fellow students on April 4.
