The leaders of Kerala's ruling United Democratic Front Thursday said that no decision has been taken yet on the cabinet post to be offered to Kerala Congress chief Ramesh Chennithala, while media speculations continued on it.

The Congress-led United Democratic Front leaders met at the residence of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy here Thursday. However, UDF convenor P.P. Thankachen later said the appointment of Chennithala as the deputy chief minister did not come up at the meeting.

"As per the constitution, there is no post as deputy chief minister. Both of them (Chandy and Chennithala) are discussing the issue. Once they come to an agreement, the party high command would be informed and then it would be discussed in the UDF," Thankachen told reporters after the meeting.

The leaders of Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), the second largest constituent in the UDF, also participated in the Thursday's meeting.

"We are extremely delighted with the discussions at the UDF meeting. There had been some issues which we have decided to settle through discussions," said IUML spokesperson E.T. Mohammed Basheer.

On the speculations that Chennithala would be made the deputy chief minister, Basheer said: "At today's (Thursday's) UDF meeting, it was made clear that it was the media that came out with stories of the post being given to Chennithala. The Congress party never said this."

Chandy also flayed the media Wednesday for coming up with baseless stories on the creation of a post of deputy chief minister.
