Seeking to dispel the perception that there is a cold war between the judiciary and his government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday maintained that under his dispensation there is "no scope" for any confrontation with any constitutional institution.

"This government goes by rules, law and the Constitution. There is no scope for any confrontation or tension with any constitutional institution," the Prime Minister said in an interview to CNN News18.

Referring to reports of differences between the executive and the judiciary, Modi described it as a "totally wrong perception", according to a release from the channel.

Modi said: "There must be as much warmth with judiciary as needed for constitutional decorum. I try my best to maintain as much decorum as possible."

There have been reports about confrontation between judiciary and the government in recent times, especially in the context of appointment of judges.

Even on Independence Day, Chief Justice of India T.S. Thakur also expressed disappointment over the silence of "popular" Prime Minister Modi over issues of "justice" and "appointment of judges" during his Independence Day address from the ramparts of Red Fort.
