Noida discom to deploy smart metering solutions

After successfully testing smart metering solutions in a locality here, state-run discom Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd (PVVNL) is to deploy these in 50,000 consumer meters in Noida.

This smart solution, unique for not requiring a change of existing meters, uses advanced machine-to-machine technology and makes the existing infrastructure smart by adding intelligent modules to it.

"Aside from investment protection as existing meters are used, the smart solution also incorporates theft detection with real time alerts which will help in bringing down the commercial losses," said PVVNL Superintending Engineer Arvind Rajvedi.

"The new system will take care of load management for flattening the peak demand and will also carry out an energy audit and load forecast to ensure steady and quality supply to consumer," Rajvedi said.

"It ushers in transparency whereby there will be no excess or wrong billing, and there will be timely bill generation and timely replacement of faulty meters," Rajvedi added.

For the consumer, the system provides real time alerts for faults like low voltage, faulty meter and low power factor.
