Activist Swami Agnivesh on Saturday said he and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chairman Yasin Malik were not arrested but detained for marching towards the village where a teenager died in security forces' firing in the morning.
"Me and Malik were not arrested... infact we were only detained by the police for 10-15 minutes for marching towards the village where a teenager was killed in firing by the police," Agnivesh told IANS from Srinagar.
Agnivesh and Malik earlier staged a symbolic hunger strike in Maisuma locality of Srinagar city along with activists of JKLF against the government's proposal to set up composite townships for migrant Kashmiri Pandits in the valley.
In the afternoon, Malik and Swami Agnivesh decided to proceed to Narbal village where a teenager died in firing by security forces in the morning during clashes between a stone pelting mob and the security forces.
"I came here only for solidarity to such a good initiative started by Malik. I don't know why did the media called our detention an arrest," Agnivesh said, adding that he was on his way to the airport and will reach Delhi by 6.30 p.m.
