Despite getting flak for playing women again and again on the small screen, Ali Asgar donned is again seen playing a female character in "Comedy Nights With Kapil". He says novelty is not always possible.
"It is not easy to do something new every time... We say that we should do something new but entertainment is an expensive medium. There is a lot of hard work and research," Ali, who also plays Juju in fun-fantasy show "Jeannie Aur Juju", told IANS.
"When channel people do something new, it is after a lot of hard work. It is also about getting acceptance from people," he added.
Having said that the actor tries not to repeat himself.
"I see that I don't repeat what I have done before. Also, it is important that I am entertained by the work I take up, then I will do it," he said.
"Comedy Nights With Kapil" went on air June 22 on Colors and praising the show, he said: "It has no similarities with other comedy shows. It is a new format on Indian TV. It has entertainment right from the beginning."
He also enjoys the lively atmosphere on the set.
"We are six to seven actors and we know each other very well. There is always improvisation happening," he said and added comedy is not an easy genre.
"We have dearth of comedy makers and talent... The talent that we have in India are seen in the show. Plus we have Mr. Sidhu (Navjot Singh Sidhu), who is famous for his oneliners," he said.
"Comedy Nights With Kapil" is comedian Kapil's maiden production venture and he too features in it.
