Filmmaker Bill Lawrence has confirmed that he is developing a musical based on his hit medical sitcom "Scrubs".
Lawrence said a musical was a natural extension of the show since the sitcom featured not only pop music, "but a lot of singing and songwriting, ranging from a cappella group to a full-blown musical episode", reports dailymail.co.uk.
The idea for a musical gained steam after the 45-year-old learned that "'Scrubs' is very, very big in the UK".
He said negotiations were underway with different theatre groups that would pay for composers to develop songs.
"And the most fun thing for a theatre junkie is we've already reached the stage that various composers have been submitting songs based on an outline that we put together for the type of stuff we would do," said Lawrence.
The musical version of "Scrubs" could be in a Broadway theatre by 2017.
