In a major climbdown, Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday tendered an apology for a cartoon which was interpreted as ridiculing the Maratha community, published in the September 25 editions of Saamana and Dopahar Ka Saamana.
The development came after the cartoonist, Shreenivas Prabhudesai, had apologized for the cartoon which had unleashed a wave of anger and protests among the powerful Maratha community in the state.
"Though the storm over the cartoon had passed, the storm in my mind had not yet ebbed. So I am apologizing," Thackeray, who is editor of the group of publications, told mediapersons here on Saturday afternoon.
