Odisha's industrial town of Talcher Friday recorded a maximum temperature of 42.5 degrees Celsius, the highest, as a heat wave continued in many parts of the state, an official said.
Large number of people preferred to stayed indoors at Talcher, in the district of Angul, about 170 km from Bhubaneswar, when the heat was at its peak.
The other places which recorded high temperature of 40 degree and beyond include Titilagarh (41.5 degrees), Bhawanipatna (41.2 degrees), Sambalpur (40.2 degrees), Hirakud (40.1 degrees), Bolangir (40 degrees) and Malkangiri (40.2 degrees), an official of the local meteorological centre here told IANS.
The heat wave conditions would prevail over some parts of the state during the next two days although rain or thundershowers are likely to occur in one or two places, he said.
Responding to reported deaths in the state's western parts due to sunstroke, a revenue department official said the district administrations concerned have been asked to verify the issue.
