Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah congratulated his state's team on reaching the quarter-finals of the Ranji Trophy Thursday.
Jammu and Kashmir drew their final Group C game against Tripura at Agartala but bagged three points against Tripura's one on a first innings lead.
"Congratulations to the J&K cricket team for reaching the quarters of the Ranji trophy. 1st time since 2000 so well done chaps," tweeted Omar, whose father Farooq Abdullah is the president of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA).
Only two teams could have qualified from Group C where Maharashtra are topping the table with 35 points. Jammu and Kashmir and Goa were both stuck on 28 points but the former scraped through on the basis of a better net run rate.
Jammu and Kashmir will play the last-eight match against Punjab, who qualified from Group A, at Vadodara Jan 8-12.
