A bear Thursday mauled an elderly man to death and injured seven others in Odisha's Balasore district, an official said.
The bear, who is believed to come from the nearby forest, attacked the people in Radhaballavpur village, 200 km from Bhubaneswar, a district forest official told IANS.
Efforts were underway to capture the beast, he said.
This was the third incidents of attack by wild bear on humans in the state in less than a week.
A wild bear had earlier mauled eight people, including two women, to death and injured eight others in a forest near Kotpad in Koraput district, about 550 km from here, over the weekend. The bear was later killed by the villagers.
A mob of over a hundred people had killed a wild bear and set it ablaze near Turumunga village in mineral-rich Keonjhar district May 3 after it attacked and injured a man.
