The government has turned the 'One Rank One Pension' (OROP) issue into a "sordid" tale of broken promises and "shattered" dreams, the Congress said on Friday.
"Today is the 50th anniversary of the India-Pakistan 1965 war. While a grateful nation pays homage to the heroes of the 1965 war, we rededicate ourselves to the leadership of (late) former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri and his clarion call of 'Jai Jawan Jai Kisaan'," Congress spokesperson R.P.N. Singh told the media.
"On the golden jubilee of the 1965 victory, agitation for OROP by our ex-servicemen has entered its diamond jubilee, 75 days of unrelenting fast with no solution in sight.
"One Rank One Pension has become a sordid tale of broken promises and shattered dreams by a government callous to the yearning of over 30 lakh ex-servicemen," he said.
He said the Congress once again reiterates its unflinching commitment and unquestionable support for soldiers and ex-servicemen.
"OROP remains unimplemented 15 months after Prime Minister Narendra Modi took over. We call upon the BJP government to fulfil the solemn commitment to those who commit their lives to the service of the nation," he added.
