Over 1,000 do yoga in Chinese city

Over 1,000 people on Saturday participated in a yoga event in China's Jiangsu province.

The event was organised in Suqian, which became the 10th city to celebrate the third International Yoga Day.

The International Yoga Day was celebrated on June 21. "More than 1,000 yoga lovers from all over Suqian participated in the yoga session."

"Most of the participants included young students, members of several yoga clubs from Suqian, and the local media."

The Indian consulate in Shanghai has been organising yoga events in various cities in East China with the help of local authorities.

Jiang Fuyang, Deputy Secretary General of Suqian Municipal People's government, said yoga had tremendous health benefits and was becoming increasingly popular amongst the youth in Suqian.

He encouraged the young generation to preserve ancient knowledge and reap benefits from it.
