Over 40 inmates escaped from a juvenile justice home here Monday when the security staff were shifting two of them to another home in the city, police said.
The incident happened around 4 p.m. at a juvenile justice home in Mukherjee Nagar, when two of them were being shifted to another one located in Majnu Ka Tila area.
A police officer said the two were being shifted because of their criminal activities.
Monday, the duo got hint and started creating ruckus inside the home premises. One of them hit his head against the wall and shouted.
In the meantime, other inmates got the chance to scale the boundary wall and escape.
"More than 40 inmates, including the duo who created ruckus, scaled the wall and escaped," said a police officer.
The officer said the two juveniles who orchestrated the escape are involved in heinous crimes.
He said one was involved in a murder case in Mayur Vihar area while the other was apprehended for being involved in three robberies in Kotla Mubarakpur, Nizamuddin and Amar Colony areas, he added.
In December 2013, 35 inmates escaped following a scuffle inside the home.
As many as 139 juveniles are lodged in the home.
