The biennial Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) multinational naval drill held in Hawaii has concluded.

The five-week exercise involved more than 40 vessels, 200 aircraft and some 25,000 personnel from 22 countries, Xinhua reported.

RIMPAC is the world's largest multinational maritime military drill.

Initiated by the US military, RIMPAC 2014 marked its 24th year since its beginning in 1971.

RIMPAC 2014 focused on developing maritime safety and security capabilities and was themed "Capable, Adaptive, Partners".

The exercise ended Friday, followed by an elaborate closing ceremony.
