The Palestinian national unity government has decided to join the International Criminal Police Organisation, commonly known as Interpol, a senior official says.
The Palestinian government will submit a request to join the organisation in 2015 ahead of Interpol's annual meeting in November, Press TV reported citing Ahmad al-Rabie, a senior official in the Palestinian Authority's Ministry of Interior,as saying Saturday.
Rabie added that Palestine had submitted a request to join Interpol in 2011, but was only accepted as an observer.
Joining Interpol will be beneficial for the Palestinian police as they will receive training courses, expertise, and information from the organisation, Rabie said.
The development came a day after Palestinian Ambassador to the UN Riyad Mansour officially submitted documents for Palestine's membership in the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The Palestinian envoy stressed that the ICC membership will pave the way for Palestinian authorities to seek justice for the victims of Israeli regime's aggression and crimes.
On Wednesday, President of the Palestinian National Unity Government Mahmoud Abbas signed the documents necessary for Palestine to join 20 international organisations.
