The first sitting of the budget session of the Uttar Pradesh assembly witnessed pandemonium and uproar as Opposition parties raised slogans against the BJP government and disrupted the smooth running of the house.
Speaker Hriday Narayan Dixit expressed displeasure at the behaviour of the opposition benches and said he was saddened that despite assurances for smooth conduct of the house, the Opposition created ruckus.
Clearly upset at the behaviour of the Opposition legislators, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna said the Opposition parties had nothing to do with public welfare and were only wasting time.
As soon as the house met, Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress legislators walked into the well of the house and raked up the matter of the killing of five upper caste persons in Rae Bareli.
Alleging complete failure of the Yogi Adityanath-led government in maintaining law and order in the state, they also raised banners and posters against the BJP government.
SP legislators also demanded prohibition in the state and termed the government as "anti-minority and anti-Dalit".
Congress lawmakers called the loan waiver of farmers in the state a sham. SP and Congress legislators also joined hands to raise protest in the upper house.
State Finance Minister Rajesh Agarwal will present the maiden budget of the state BJP government after the house reconvenes at 12 noon.
