A portion of an old foot overbridge collapsed on a running express train in Bihar Monday evening, causing derailment of the train. However, there were no casualties, railway officials said.
The incident took place near the Samastipur railway station when the Amrapali Express was passing under the foot overbridge.
"It was mere good chance that nothing happened as the passengers escaped a major accident," a railway police official said.
Owing to the impact of the collapse, three coaches of the train derailed and were slightly damaged, disrupting train services along the route.
Amitabh Prabhakar, chief public relations officer of East Central Railway, said neither injuries nor any deaths were reported.
In November 2013, nearly a dozen people were injured when a portion of an old road overbridge collapsed on a goods train in Muzaffarpur district.
