Delhiites woke up to a pleasant Saturday morning with the minimum temperature settled five notches below the season's average at 22.7 degrees Celsius. The Met Office has forecast light rain and thunderstorm during the day.

The rain has given much-needed respite from the soaring temperatures in the city.

Delhi recorded 3.6 mm of rainfall since Friday.

"The sky will be partly cloudy. Light rain and thunderstorm can occur in some parts of the city," said an official of India Meteorological Department.

The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 40 degrees Celsius.

"When I woke up, I saw its raining. I felt its going to be an amazing day as we finally got respite from the scorching heat," Avantika Malik told IANS, who was on her way to office.

Manish Chibbar, who works in an ad agency, said: "Its a lovely weather and I am hoping it would stay like this for long."

On Friday, the maximum temperature settled three notches below the season's average at 36.4 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature was recorded five notches below the season's average at 22.7 degrees Celsius.
