The Naga Students' Union Delhi (NSUD) on Tuesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to solve the Nagaland issue as soon as possible.

The students' union also urged the central government to ensure that the interests and the identity of all Naga tribes across the northeast are protected under the Naga peace accord.

"We have faith in the collective leadership of Isak Chishi Swu and T. Muivah for negotiating on behalf of all the Naga people and want to acknowledge Narendra Modi, who is showing his personal commitment in resolving the Indo-Naga political issue by respecting the rights and aspirations of Naga people," said a statement from the NSUD.

The statement said that though the contents of the peace accord were yet to be released, the collective leadership should negotiate in favour of the ambitions of the Naga people and their struggle for their right to self determination for the last seven decades.

The NSUD said it will continue its "unconditional support to any organisation who fights for the cause of the Naga people and also speak to all the civil bodies who are concerned about the Indo-Naga issue to understand the recent development and contribute with mutual understanding for the larger interest of the Naga people".

On August 3, the NSCN-IM and the central government signed a peace accord, after almost 20 years of negotiations.
