Students voted on Monday to elect new student unions at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and the Women's College here, officials said.
Results from the voting, which began at 9 a.m. and will end at 5 p.m., are likely to be announced by midnight. A total of 18,200 students are eligible to vote in AMU.
Another 2,789 girls can exercise their franchise at the Women's college.
The main contenders in the AMU are former Uttar Pradesh minister and BJP legislator Thakur Dalveer Singh's grandson Ajay Singh besides Abu Baqar and Maqsoor Ahmad Usmani.
