A "pollution-free Yamuna is a commitment of our government and we will do whatever is required to rejuvenate Ganges and Yamuna", union Minister for Water Resources Uma Bharti has said.
The minister told reporters as she visited Bankey Bihari temple here on Saturday on the occasion of Janmashtami that a committee of the Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi government representatives would draw up a comprehensive plan for cleaning Yamuna and a minimal flow as desired by the National Green Tribunal in the river should be maintained.
The NGT orders on encroachment on the flood-plains of the Yamuna should be strictly enforced, the minister said, adding that the demands and concerns of the people of Braj Mandal to cleanse Yamuna shall not remain unheard.
