Italy's chief football coach Cesare Prandelli confirmed that either he would renew his contract with Italy Football Association (FIGC) or take a break from football.

Prandelli said Thursday it has not been decided if he could re-sign a four-year contract with FIGC, reports Xinhua.

"We'll see what happens with the Football Federation," he was quoted by Ansa as saying.

"We will discuss it together and then we will make a decision. But I will say that if we reach an agreement, then great. Otherwise I will stay quiet and take a break, that way we can remove the headache for everyone," he said.

He hoped this issue will not distract his side's preparation for the World Cup.

"The World Cup is too important for distractions," he said.

Prandelli made this statement following his side's 1-0 defeat in Spain.

"Europe is moving quickly, and we need to keep up with the times," he said.

"We are talking about football, yet it seems we could be talking about politics or society as a whole. A national team and football are like the country they are representing," he added.
