The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has launched the pre-paid electric meter system in Ghaziabad.
"In view of power theft and irregular payment, UPPCL has introduced this system," said UPPCL chief engineer Arvind Rajbedi.
"Most professionals (living in Ghaziabad) are frequent travellers, and so their payments become irregular. It will be beneficial for them. They can top up their amounts online. Through this system, they would be able to save unnecessary charges during their long absence from their houses," he said.
For single-phase connection, the meter cost would be Rs.6,251, and for a three-phase connection, the meter cost would be Rs.11,685.
