President Parnab Mukherjee Monday congratulated a group of probationers of a new batch of Indian Revenue Service at Rashtrapati Bhavan, an official statement said.
"Welcoming the probationers, the President said that all of them would start their career in public life very soon and he was happy that prior to beginning of their new assignments, their Academy has brought them to this historic building," said the statement from president's house.
The president congratulated the probationers on their selection to the civil services which he said, is an indicator of their potential to perform and achieve.
He also urged the probationers to respect the trust of the nation as the government has assigned them the sovereign function of tax collection.
The president said the economic transformation that has taken place in the country over the years is mind-boggling. He said the officers are entering the service at a time when the country is undergoing transition from a developing to a developed economy.
The probationers are presently undergoing professional training at the National Academy of Customs, Excise and Narcotics, Faridabad. Among these probationers five were from the Royal Kingdom of Bhutan.
