Probe ordered into Goa prison food poisoning

The Goa government has ordered a magisterial probe into a food poisoning incident that claimed the life an inmate of the state's Aguada Central Jail Friday, an official said.

"The report will be submitted to the government within 30 days," a government spokesperson told reporters here Saturday.

Mahadev Gaonkar had died at the Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim, Tiswadi, while 118 other inmates had to undergo medical treatment after they complained of food poisoning after having dinner.

Prison authorities have already launched an internal probe into the incident.
