Authorities in Haryana's Karnal district have issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC along the Yamuna river to check illegal mining in the district, a spokesman said Friday.
He said to prevent illegal mining, temporary police posts were being set up all along the river. Six joint officers teams of the revenue and police departments have been constituted to keep vigil.
The spokesman said 33 cases of illegal mining have been registered in Karnal district this year till now and 55 people have been arrested.
As many as 370 vehicles involved in illegal activities have been impounded.
Illegal mining of sand in the Yamuna river, which flows along the Haryana-Uttar Pradesh border, is rampant in many parts of Haryana. Authorities have banned mining in the river bed.
