Violent clashes broke out in parts of this Jammu and Kashmir summer capital on Monday in protest against a youth's killing on Saturday, leading to closure of shops and causing traffic snarls in many areas.
A large number of youths came on streets in old city Srinagar early morning and blocked roads. They also pelted stones on security forces.
Security forces lobbed tear smoke shells to disperse the stone pelting protestors.
As clashes broke out, shopkeepers pulled their shutters down and the traffic came to a halt in Nowhatta, Gojwara, Rajouri Kadal and Kawadara areas of old city Srinagar.
Long queues of vehicles stuck in jam were seen as traffic got diverted on other city routes leading to heavy rush on these roads.
In Zainakote area on the city's outskirts, where a youth Gowhar Ahmad Dar was killed on Saturday in clashes with security forces, clashes continued on the third consecutive day on Monday.
Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered a magisterial probe into the youth's killing.
