Punjab cadre Indian Administrative Service officer T.K. Goyal has been sentenced to three-year rigorous imprisonment in a bribery case by a court in Mohali town adjoining Chandigarh, a state Vigilance Bureau spokesman said here on Friday.
Tej Kumar Goyal was arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act on September 8, 2010, while he was serving as a Joint Secretary in the Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Welfare Department.
"The officer was caught red-handed by a Vigilance Bureau team at his office in the Civil Secretariat here while accepting Rs 50,000 as bribe from complainant George Shambu of Begowal village in Kapurthala district," he added.
Shambu had complained that Goyal was demanding Rs 1 lakh to issue him a caste certificate.
