Three earthquakes, one of moderate intensity, hit India's northeastern region Thursday night and Friday, an official said. There are no reports of casualties or damage to property.
"A moderate intensity quake measuring 5.6 on the Richter Scale and two low intensity tremors both measuring 4.3 on the Richter Scale shook northeastern states and neighbouring Myanmar and Bangladesh," a meteorological department official said in Agartala.
"The first quake occurred at 6.14 p.m. and the second quake took place at 10.45 p.m. Thursday. The third tremor happened at 4.15 a.m. Friday," he added.
Disaster management control rooms of Tripura and Mizoram governments said there was no report of casualties or damage to property.
The met official said the epicentre of all the three quakes were Mizoram-Myanmar border. "The tremors were also felt in southern Assam, bordering regions of Bangladesh and Myanmar," the official added.
India's northeastearn region is considered the sixth major earthquake-prone belt (zone five) in the world.
